Excursions
Here are some trips a bit further afield. You can drive yourself or you can find advertised excursions from the travel agents locally, or ask at the Oasis Club.

Gibraltar
 |
About a 75 minute drive and you can visit Gibraltar. This is a British
overseas territory and famous for the Rock of Gibraltar and the Barbary
Macaques found there.
If you are driving, head west past Marbella and
park in the town of La Línea, which is well signposted from the
motorway. There is plenty of parking in La Línea and from here it's an
easy walk across the border to Gibraltar.
|
|
Don't forget your passport! You will also need English money to spend, although you can of course
withdraw it from cashpoints there, and many shops will accept euros as
well. The town area will look very familiar, with the usual UK high
street chains in much evidence.
From the town, you can head up the rock by cable car or with one of
the many tour guides. Here you will find the World War II tunnels, St
Michaels Cave, the Barbary Apes, and of course the fantastic view!

Tangiers (Tanger), Morocco
 |
Tangiers is in Morocco, so again you will need your passport. You can cross to Morocco from the various ports of Spain. We would recommend driving to the port of Tarifa, which is a bit further but the ferry crossing is then much shorter, about 35 minutes.
|
| |
Bear in mind the time difference. In the summer, Morocco is 2 hours
behind Spain! Allow plenty of time to catch the ferry. Allow 1hr45 to
get to Tarifa and park, and allow 1hr in Tarifa to buy tickets and go
through the boarding process before the ferry departure time. We left
the apartment at 8:15am in order to get the 11am ferry departure which
was about right. You can buy tickets in Tarifa, or at many points along
the road to Tarifa, or you can book online in advance.
FRS is the ferry company and the also can provide guided tours as well.
See their website for details.
